‘Brain in Chip’

In a collaborative project with the Biomaterials Engineering laboratory of Prof. Dror Seliktar, we have developed a versatile new optical strategy for generating complex 3-D patterns having micron scale resolution that can be practically applied for guiding cellular outgrowth in semi-transparent bio-synthetic hydrogels. The method is based on multi-photon photo-ablation of the solid phase of a hydrogel material, which provide directional guidance for neurites and support cells. This approach could be used for directing nerve regeneration and in the development of a ‘Brain in Chip’ technology.
